Why was I not accepted into the OCEAN Accelerator?

It is reasonable to want to know why you were not asked to join the next accelerator class. You understandably want to know if something is wrong with your project.

OCEAN Accelerator is unique amongst other accelerators principally for the strong thread of faith that we weave into the teaching and culture of our accelerator.  While we use a carefully prepared rubric and scoring process, our faith focus moves us to pray to discern which groups are best suited for this specific cohort.

Because this is not a purely scientific process, we generally do not tell people why they were not included in the class.    And to be fair, there sometimes is often no specific reason. The reason an application is not moved along does not suggest that the business idea is no good or without merit.   Stepping out as an entrepreneur takes bravery and faith to persevere in the midst of setbacks. But that is what makes us all stronger.

It may be helpful to know that our evaluators may have felt that another accelerator with a different focus, or in a different region of the county would benefit your business more directly than what we could provide.   If we don’t feel we can significantly move the needle for your benefit, we will often withdraw ourselves from disrupting your business momentum. That is the most fair and most appropriate…for you.

Please do not see a rejection as a failing grade in a class.   It is not. Your idea may well deserve to see the light of day to make a difference in the world.  While maybe not best suited for OCEAN, we believe in your resilience and drive to keep going and find the right fit to accelerate and promote your business.

And lastly, know that as we release you to consider other accelerators and incubators to benefit your project, we have prayed earnestly and specifically for you as founders and for your business idea.    We believe, and hope you do too.
